Elia Open Data
Open data provided by Elia is essential for understanding and effectively managing the electricity network.
Available datasets
Currently, the following dataset available In Data Hub are:
Imbalance prices per quarter-hour (Near real-time)
Available since version 6.4 in October 2024
This dataset provides detailed information on the imbalances in the electricity grid. The data includes timestamps, imbalance values in megawatts (MW), and other relevant metrics that help monitor and analyze the stability of the grid. The dataset is updated every 15 minutes with H-1 data. This near real time update allows to reflect the most current status of the network.
Different variables are available with this dataset:
Elia name | Data Hub variable name |
---|---|
Marginal decremental price | MDP |
Marginal incremental price | MIP |
Imbalanceprice | PNeg & PPos |
System imbalance | SI |
System imbalance + ACE | NRV |
As of 2024-05-22, Elia has migrated the Imbalance Data to a new API. To maintain data continuity for existing customers, the same variables have been retained. However, NRV data is no longer available directly through Elia and is now calculated as imbalance + ace. PNeg and PPos have been combined into a single value, the imbalance price, as both PNeg and PPos were previously populated with the same data from Elia.
Imbalance prices per minute (Near real-time)
Available since version 6.5 in December 2024
This dataset provides detailed information on the imbalances in the electricity grid. The data includes timestamps, imbalance values in megawatts (MW), and other relevant metrics that help monitor and analyze the stability of the grid. The dataset is updated every minute with H-15 min data. This near real time update gives an indication for the final imbalance price of the ISP (imbalance settlement period which is 15min)
This dataset can be used for:
- Tracking minute-by-minute price variations.
- Analyzing market imbalance trends.
- Making forecasts based on historical imbalance price data.
Following data types are available:
- Marginal decremental price
- Marginal incremental price
- Imbalanceprice
- System imbalance
- NRV
Each of these data types has three separate variables corresponding to different quality statuses. This setup allows you to assess the quality of the data. Additionally, you can create a fourth variable that prioritizes the data based on its quality status.
System imbalance forecast next quarter hour (near real-time)
Available since version 6.5 in December 2024
This dataset contains forecasts of the average system imbalance for the next quarter hour. The data represents Elia's own predictions of the system imbalance. It is important to note that these forecasts can have a significant error margin and are not binding for either Elia or Opinum. They are shared solely for informational purposes, and under no circumstances does the publication or use of this information imply any shift in responsibility or liability towards Elia or Opinum. The dataset is updated every minute with H-15 min data.
This dataset can be used for:
- Monitoring and predicting short-term system imbalances.
- Analyzing the probability distributions of system imbalances.
- Supporting decision-making processes in energy management and trading.
Wind power production estimation and forecast on Belgian grid (Near real-time)
This dataset provides near real-time and forecasted data on wind power production. This dataset is essential for understanding and predicting wind power generation on the Belgian grid. The dataset is updated every hour, providing data from the current day up to seven days ahead (D+7).
This dataset can be used for:
- Monitoring and predicting wind power production in near real-time.
- Analyzing the impact of wind power on the Belgian grid.
- Supporting decision-making processes in energy management and trading.
Currently we have the following data types available:
- Day ahead forecast
- Day Ahead 11 am forecast
- Monitored capacity
- Week ahead forecast
The following properties are separated into distinct variables for each data type:
- Offshore/Onshore
- Region
- Grid Connection Type
Photovoltaic power production estimation and forecast on Belgian grid (Near real-time)
Available since version 6.5 in December 2024
This dataset provides near real-time and forecasted data on photovoltaic (PV) power production. This dataset is essential for understanding and predicting wind power generation on the Belgian grid. The dataset is updated every hour, providing data from the current day up to seven days ahead (D+7).
This dataset can be used for:
- Monitoring and predicting PV power production in near real-time.
- Analyzing the impact of solar power on the Belgian grid.
- Supporting decision-making processes in energy management and trading.
Currently we have the following data types available:
- Day ahead forecast
- Day Ahead 11 am forecast
- Monitored capacity
- Week ahead forecast
The following properties are separated into distinct variables for each region.
